Think Pink Night Kicks Off Busy Week at Home for Eagles

FORT MYERS, Fla. – With the tournament season coming to a close on Sunday, the FGCU softball team can now set their sights on a busy week of home games. The Eagles will host three doubleheaders at the FGCU Softball Complex this week, beginning with Think Pink night against Dartmouth on Tuesday (Mar. 23). On Thursday (Mar. 25), Jacksonville will be in town, followed by a visit from North Florida (Mar. 25) on Saturday (Mar. 27).

The Blue and Green (11-19, 2-0 A-Sun) faced some stiff competition at the USF The Game tournament this past weekend, compiling an 0-4 record at the tournament. On Friday, FGCU fell to No. 21 Illinois, 6-1, before losing to Maryland, 3-0. Saturday, the Eagles were defeated by No. 18 Oklahoma State, 6-2, and lost to Northern Illinois, 7-5. Sunday’s scheduled game against No. 16 Ohio State was canceled due to rain.

Courtney Platt (Greenville, Ohio) continues to lead the team in batting average (.359), home runs (six), and RBIs (18). Catherine McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) leads the pitching staff with five wins, while Stephanie Sullivan (Venice, Fla.) owns a team-best 2.98 ERA.

Dartmouth (1-10) also competed at the USF The Game tournament, dropping all four contests. The Big Green lost to No. 18 Oklahoma State (4-2), North Florida (3-0), Maryland (11-4), and No. 21 Illinois (16-1). As a team, Dartmouth is hitting .196 and has been outscored 78-19 on the season.

Jacksonville (19-7, 0-0) travelled to Savannah, Ga., for a doubleheader at Savannah State on Friday. The Dolphins won both games, 11-0 and 2-1. Six JU regulars are hitting above .300, including Olivia Kline, who leads the team with six home runs. Kline has also been effective in the circle, recording a 5-2 record and a 2.71 ERA in nine starts.

North Florida (13-18, 1-1) split their four games at the USF The Game tournament, including a 1-0 win over No. 16 Ohio State. The Ospreys also defeated Dartmouth, 3-0, and lost to Florida A&M (3-2) and Maryland (1-0, 8 innings). Caroline Torre leads the offense with a .313 average, two home runs, and 17 RBIs. In the circle, Devyn Findley has been the ace, registering a 10-9 record with a 1.74 ERA.

Tuesday’s doubleheader against Dartmouth is Think Pink night at the FGCU Softball Complex. The Eagles will be wearing special pink jerseys which will be auctioned off in a silent auction during the games. The net proceeds from the auction will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. First pitch for game one is set for 5 p.m. at the FGCU Softball Complex. Thursday’s doubleheader against Jacksonville is also scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., while Saturday’s doubleheader against North Florida will start at 2 p.m.
