Eagles Drop a Pair at USC Upstate
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The FGCU softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at USC Upstate on Friday afternoon, losing 3-0 in game one and 11-0 in game two. Lauran Ziegler (Palm Bay, Fla.) picked up three hits in seven at-bats for the Eagles.
Catherine McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) took the loss in game one, dropping to 7-11 on the season. McDaniel pitched a complete game, allowing three unearned runs on four hits, walking three and striking out one.
The Spartans did all of their damage in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three times with two outs. Two infield singles and a fielding error led to the first run, and a two-run double from Monica Hall gave USC Upstate a 3-0 lead.

Ziegler collected two of FGCU’s three hits, finishing the game 2-for-4.
In game two, Amber Hamilton silenced the Eagle bats as she pitched a five-inning complete game shutouts, allowing just four hits. The Spartans scored in each of their four innings at the plate, including five in the bottom of the fourth to finish the game early, 11-0 after five innings.
