Softball Hosts Buffalo, Purdue on Wednesday

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Back from a five-day road trip to Arizona, the FGCU softball team now turns its attention to Buffalo and Purdue on Wednesday at the FGCU Softball Complex. The Eagles play Buffalo at 4:45 p.m. before taking on the Boilermakers at 7 p.m.

FGCU ended its trip with a 3-3 record to improve to 12-15 overall on the season. Buffalo is 3-14 on the year and is coming off a 1-4 weekend at the FAU Tournament. Purdue dropped two games against FAU on Monday for a 14-7 mark.

Offensively, FGCU is led by senior left fielder Courtney Platt (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) and freshman shortstop Brittney Garabedian (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep). With a team-high .308 average, Platt has team-bests in doubles (4), runs scored (18) and on-base percentage (.526), while boasting a conference-best 26 walks. Garabedian leads the team with 43 total bases and six home runs, holding a .293 average and 13 RBI with a .573 slugging percentage.

The Eagles’ top pitcher, redshirt senior Catherine McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla./Florida Tech) holds a 5-7 mark with a 2.00 ERA that includes 47 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .247 in 77 innings of work.

The Bulls are coming off a 1-4 weekend at the FAU Tournament in which their lone win was a 4-3 victory against host FAU that featured a season-high 11 hits. Jessica Griffin leads Buffalo with a .255 average, tallying a team-high 12 hits and seven RBI. Holly Johnson is the top hurler with a 2-4 record and a 5.14 ERA.

After posting a 3-1 record at the FAU tournament, the Boilermakers dropped two games to FAU on Monday. Shelby Krammer and Molly Garst lead the offense, while Suzie Rzegocki anchors the defense in the circle. Krammer tops the team with 17 RBI, while Garst has team-bests in hits (29), home runs (4), total bases (48) and on-base percentage (.494). Rzegocki (11-6) has 73 strikeouts in 96 innings and owns five shutouts.

This will be the first meeting for FGCU against both teams. FGCU owns a 7-5 record against MAC schools and a 3-9 record against Big Ten universities since joining Division I in 2007.
