Courtney Platt Earns NFCA All-South Region Honors
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Just over a week after being named the program’s third Atlantic Sun Player of the Year in the last four seasons, senior Courtney Platt (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) picked up another postseason honor, earning a spot on the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-South Region second team.
The All-Region honor is the second of Platt’s career, as she was a first team selection in 2009 after helping the Eagles finish the season ranked No. 23 in the Ultimate College Softball Top 25 Poll.
Platt earned the A-Sun batting crown with her conference-best .387 average, while also leading the conference in doubles (16), walks (57) and total bases (93). The Naples, Fla., product closed out the season ranked fourth in the nation in walks per game (1.02) and fifth in on-base percentage (.576). Platt led the team with 30 RBI and tallied a hit in 37 out of 52 games, while producing 12 multi-hit games.
Graduating in December with a degree in biology, Platt ends her career atop the FGCU record book in walks (175) and doubles (49), is second in on-base percentage (.514), fourth in RBI (124) and fifth in home runs (25), slugging percentage (.602) and triples (9). Platt was also a finalist for the Eagle Scholar Athlete award.
“We couldn’t be any more proud of Courtney and the final season of her career,” said head coach David Deiros. “Her inclusion with the nation's elite softball players is greatly deserved. She has been an integral part in our success in the last four years, but she really exhibited her value and versatility this season and it showed not only throughout our conference, but in the south region as well.”
The NFCA honors student-athletes from the 10 NFCA regions. A total of 258 players from 126 different institutions comprise this season’s regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
