Thursday, October 13, 2011 | by Justin Glover (@Jglove3)

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball program has announced its winter softball camp dates for girls of all skill levels, ages 12 and up. FGCU head coach Dave Deiros will host the camp, while assistant coach Alycia Bachkora and members of the 2011 squad will help run the sessions as well.

The camp will provide well-rounded instruction of the game and an enjoyable and rewarding experience for each camper. The camper-to-instructor ratio will be kept low in order to provide the best possible instruction and attention to each camper. The camp will be split into four sessions over a two-day period—November 12 and 13, 2011. The schedule is listed below:

• Advanced Hitting - Saturday, November 12 - 9 a.m.-noon

• Pitchers - Saturday, November 12 – 1-4 p.m.

• Advanced Hitting - Sunday, November 13 - 9 a.m.-noon

• Defensive - Sunday, November 13 - 1-4 p.m.

The cost of the camp is $65 for one session, $120 for two, $175 for three and all four sessions are $225. There will be discounts for siblings and team members (minimum of four from the same team). The registration deadline is November 9.

The Advanced Hitting Camp Objectives are to teach students the correct mechanics and mental approach necessary to be a successful batter, slapper, bunter, and base runner. This clinic is designed for the advanced hitter who will be evaluated using a variety of techniques. We will incorporate hitting drills designed to accelerate skill levels.

The Pitcher Camp Objectives are to teach the fundamentals required to throw a pitch correctly, with the spin and velocity as on target as possible.

The Defensive Camp Objectives to teach the necessary fundamentals to become a solid reliable defender. We will develop proper mechanics in throwing, receiving, and fielding. Individual work at a player’s specific position (including catcher) will be incorporated with the skills utilized at these positions.
