FORT MYERS, Fla. – After going 2-3 in its first home tournament of the season, the FGCU softball team is heading to Orlando, Fla. for the UCF-Courtyard by Marriott Invitational on Feb. 24-26 at the UCF Softball Complex.

The Eagles (4-6) begin the UCF Invitational with a match-up against Eastern Michigan Friday morning at 11 a.m. The Green and Blue follow with contests against Seton Hall and tournament host UCF at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, on Saturday. FGCU closes the five-game tournament with a pair of rematches against Seton Hall (9 a.m.) and Eastern Michigan (11 a.m.).

The Green and Blue picked up victories at the LaQuinta Inn & Suites FGCU Tournament last weekend against Tennessee-Martin (W, 6-0) and Binghamton (W, 10-2), but fell to Saint Louis (L, 5-3), Delaware (L, 6-4) and ACC foe Boston College (L, 6-3).

FGCU had four batters hit over .350 for the tournament, with sophomore Tori Williams (Dunnellon, Fla./Dunnellon HS) leading the way with a .545 batting average and freshman Kelsey Carpenter (Oviedo, Fla./ Hagerty HS) not far behind at .529. Carpenter also had nine hits, two triples, a homer, four RBI and a perfect 1.000 slugging percentage to earn her first-ever Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honor. Sophomores Emily Lanier (St. Cloud, Fla./Harmony HS) and Kirsten Bembnowski (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake HS) also batted .375 and .357, respectively.

In the circle at the LaQuinta Inn & Suites FGCU tournament, freshman Shelby Morgan (High Springs, Fla./Sante Fe HS) finished 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA throwing 12 innings, allowing just two earned runs with 11 strikeouts. Sophomore Amanda Josie (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) was also effective in her three appearances, which included her first start, finishing the tournament with 9.1 innings pitched with just two earned runs and four strikeouts.

Eastern Michigan is opening its 2012 season against FGCU at the UCF Invitational marking the seventh meeting between the two teams. The series is tied at 3-3 with the Green and Blue dropping a doubleheader against EMU last year, 4-3 and 4-0.

Seton Hall is coming off a 1-2 record at the Lancer Leadoff Tournament last weekend with a win over St. John’s, 7-6, in nine innings. The Pirates fell to UMBC (L, 2-1) and the tournament host Longwood (L, 8-5) to finish the tournament. Saturday will mark the first meeting between FGCU and Seton Hall.

UCF holds a 4-6 record coming into this weekend after losing six straight games, including a midweek game against No. 25 Florida State, 6-2, in nine innings on Wednesday. The Knights are led by Farrah Sullivan, who has two home runs and is batting .286 on the season, while Mackenzie Audas holds a 2-3 record in the circle with five complete games and a 1.15 ERA with 32 strikeouts.
