FORT MYERS, Fla. – Taking a doubleheader from ACC foe Maryland and a single game from Dartmouth last week, the FGCU softball team returns to the field with two doubleheaders against FAMU and No. 22 Florida State this week. The twin bill against the Rattlers starts on Wednesday, Mar. 28 at 4 p.m., followed by a Thursday doubleheader against No. 22 Florida State at 5 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Eagles are 20-16 (1-1 A-Sun) on the season after earning the program’s 400th win against Maryland (3-1) before taking game two with a 9-1 win in game two. FGCU also took down Dartmouth, 4-2, on its annual “Hit Pink” game last week.

The Green and Blue are led offensively by sophomore Jessica Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla./Haines City) with a .333 average, four home runs, 27 runs, 16 stolen bases and 29 hits. Sophomore Kirsten Bembnowski (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake HS) is second on the team with a .310 average on 27 hits, two home runs and 16 RBI, while freshman Kelsey Carpenter (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty HS) is third with a .303 average on 30 hits, 23 runs and tied for second in the nation with six triples.

In the circle, freshman Shelby Morgan (High Springs, Fla./Santa Fe HS) has an 13-3 record with 11 complete games and five shutouts. Morgan’s 1.49 ERA is second on the team, while adding 92 strikeouts in 103.1 innings of work. Sophomore Amanda Josie (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) is 5-3 with a team-best 1.40 ERA, recording 32 strikeouts and one save in 70 innings. Redshirt senior Morgan Campen (Rougemont, N.C./Northern HS) leads the team with three saves, which is tied for seventh in the nation.

FAMU (13-19) is coming off a 0-3 home weekend with a pair of losses against Mercer (4-3, 10-1) and then-No. 23 Florida State (10-1). The Rattlers are led by Jasmin Donaldson, who holds a .370 batting average on 34 hits, three doubles, three triples and 15 stolen bases. FAMU is led in the circle by Jenn Lindsey, who has a 4-6 record with a 2.84 ERA in 74 innings.

No. 22 Florida State (29-5) enters the contest on a six-game winning streak after sweeping Virginia (5-0, 2-0, 3-1) last weekend in Charlottesville, Va. The Seminoles are a perfect 16-0 at home and are led by Courtney Senas, who sports a .330 batting average on 32 hits, four doubles, 15 stolen bases and 13 RBI. In the circle, Lacey Waldrop (0.95) and Monica Perry (0.71) have ERA’s under one with Waldrop holding a 14-2 record. Perry leads the team with four shutouts and 121 strikeouts in 99 innings.
