FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off a 3-1 record on the road, the FGCU softball team looks to finish the season strong with a final doubleheader against Atlantic Sun rival North Florida on Thursday, May 3 at 5 p.m. at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The Eagles are 32-22 (12-4 A-Sun) on the season following trips to ETSU (W, 10-0 W, 8-2) and USC Upstate (L, 2-1 W, 8-6) back on April 20-21. FGCU needs to sweep UNF to clinch a share of the A-Sun regular season title as Kennesaw State finished the season with a 14-4 conference record.

During A-Sun action the Green and Blue have four players hitting over .315, led by sophomore Chelsea Zgrabik’s (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) .451 average on 23 hits, six doubles, seven home runs 23 RBI and  a .980 slugging percentage. Sophomore Emily Lanier (St. Cloud, Fla./Harmony HS) is second on the team with a .390 average on 16 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI, while classmate Jessica Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla./Haines City) is third on the team with a .372 mark on 16 hits, 12 runs, four doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases. Rounding out the list is sophomore Kirsten Bembnowski (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake HS), who is hitting .320 on 16 hits, four doubles, three home runs and nine RBI.

In the circle, freshman Shelby Morgan (High Springs, Fla./Santa Fe HS) has dazzled A-Sun opponents earning six of her team-leading 18 wins during the conference season. Morgan has a solid 0.78 ERA with seven complete games and three shutouts against league foes.  Sophomore Amanda Josie (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) has had a breakout sophomore campaign, sitting second on the team with a 10-5 record and a 2.19 ERA in 118 innings.

UNF (27-26, 7-9 A-Sun) has lost seven of its last eight games and four straight conference games heading into the season finale. The Ospreys are led by Mariah Reynolds, who is hitting .307 on 35 hits, seven doubles, four home runs and 26 RBI on the season.  In the circle, Kaylie Wallace has a 13-7 record in 33 appearances and leads the team with a 1.86 ERA.

The all-time series between the two schools sits in favor of UNF, 8-5, including a 3-1 mark when playing at the FGCU Softball Complex. This rivalry dates back to when FGCU was in Division II, but the Eagles split a doubleheader last season in Jacksonville, Fla. (W, 5-2 L, 2-0)
