FORT MYERS, Fla. – Having returned from a road trip that featured six games in five days, the FGCU softball team will begin a nine-game home stand with a three-game series against in-state foe Jacksonville that will begin on Saturday, April 13 at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The three-game set will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday with game one to begin at 2 p.m. The final game of the series is set to get underway at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.

The Eagles return home after a six-game road trip around the state of Georgia which included a three-game series at Mercer, followed by a trio of games at Kennesaw State with the Eagles finishing 3-3 on the road stint.

FGCU has posted an overall record of 27-15 this season with an 8-6 mark against A-Sun foes. The Eagles are 3-6 in their last nine contests and will look to turn things around with a series on its home field. Jacksonville enters the weekend with a 30-12 record and a 11-5 record in league play. The Dolphins, who were riding a nine-game winning streak as of late, had their win streak snapped on Wednesday, April 10 after dropping both games of a doubleheader with Stetson.

Selected to finish in fifth place in the 2013 Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Jacksonville currently sits in second place in the A-Sun softball standings with under a month remaining until the start of the A-Sun Championship tournament.

The Dolphins have used a solid offense to be successful against their opposition this season, as they are ranked second in the A-Sun in batting average (.300) and slugging percentage (.475), while ranking first in home runs (44).

The Eagle defense will look to excel against Jacksonville with a runner on first as the Green and Blue rank first in the A-Sun and seventh in the nation in double plays (23) against a Jacksonville team that leads the conference, having grounded into six double plays this season.

A-Sun Player of the Week Jessica Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla./Haines City HS) will continue her quest for the honor in a second straight week as the junior outfielder and 2013 Preseason All-Atlantic Sun team selection has collected two home runs, four RBI and a 1.800 slugging percentage through three games this week.

Jacksonville boasts a four-player pitching rotation that is highlighted by a pair of freshmen that have combined for a 17-5 record with a 2.31 ERA and 148 strikeouts through 167 innings pitched.

When FGCU has put together a strong offensive production, the Eagles have come out with a victory on multiple occasions as the Green and Blue are 19-2 this season when scoring six or more runs. On the flip side, the Eagles have struggled to win when kept in check by opposing pitchers as FGCU is 0-11 in 2013 when scoring two runs or less.

The two programs have met a total of 11 times with FGCU having won nine of those all-time meetings. The Eagles and Dolphins most recently faced off on May 10 in the second round of the A-Sun conference championship in Spartanburg, S.C. After trailing 4-2, the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend the contest. The Green and Blue used a grand slam from then-sophomore, Chelsea Zgrabik (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) in the bottom of the eighth to walk-off with a victory.
