NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 3 FGCU softball team (35-17, 16-7 A-Sun) will look to keep its season from coming to an end as it takes on No. 5 Kennesaw State in an Atlantic Sun Softball Championship elimination game on Thursday, May 9 at 4:00 p.m. EST at Draper Diamond.

In its second year of postseason eligibility and its second A-Sun tournament appearance, the Eagles are 3-1 in A-Sun postseason play after FGCU went 3-0 during the 2012 championship that the Green and Blue won to clinch an automatic NCAA tournament berth.

FGCU finds itself in the first elimination game of the 2013 A-Sun tournament after the Eagles opened their tournament appearance with a loss to in-state rival No. 6 Stetson, 14-6, after the Hatters used an offensive barrage to bury the Eagles to pull the upset.

The Owls faced tournament host, No. 4 Lipscomb to open their postseason play and fell in eight innings, 5-4, after the Bisons used a solo home run to walk-off with a win on their home field.

The Eagles and Owls met earlier this season as the two teams faced off in a three-game set from Kennesaw, Ga. with Kennesaw State (Apr. 9-10) taking two of three (11-3 (5 inn.), 1-4, 2-3) from an FGCU squad that found itself on the tail end of a six-game road trip. The series loss seemed to be a turning point for the Green and Blue as they finished the 2013 regular season by winning eight of their last nine games after dropping the series to the Owls.

FGCU and Kennesaw State have met 14 times in the history of the two programs with the Eagles leading the all-time series 10-4 heading into Thursday’s elimination game.

A win for the Green and Blue would place them in a game on Friday, May 10 at 4:00 p.m. EST with the opponent to be determined with games still to be played.

The game between the Eagles and Owls can be viewed live and free of charge on ASun.TV with tickets still available for purchase ($10 for daily admission and $25 for a tournament pass).
