MACON, Ga. – After leading the FGCU softball team to three shutout wins over North Florida this weekend, senior Jessica Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla./Haines City High School) earned Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors for the second-straight week, as announced by the conference on Monday.  The accolade is Barnes’ fourth of her career and second this season.

Barnes produced an average of .500 on the week with five hits in 10 at bats.  She began the week going 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and scored the game winning run in game two of the series. Barnes finished the weekend with three RBI, a .545 on-base percentage and an assist from center field.  She also robbed UNF of an extra-base hit with a phenomenal leaping catch late in the one-run game on Friday.

Barnes is currently averaging .355 on the season with eight homeruns and 17 RBI.  The center fielder holds a fielding percentage of .958 with 63 put outs and six assists.

The senior’s offensive ability helped the Eagles improve to 28-21-1 on the season and move to 11-10 in conference play.

Barnes and the Eagles will be back in action this weekend as the host Mercer in a three-game series at the FGCU Softball Complex.
