FGCU softball takes two in double header

Fort Myers – The FGCU softball team defeated Wingate University 5-3 and Salem International 8-0 today at the Lee County Sports Complex.
In the first game against Wingate University, Nicole Wehrner (6-2) went the distance throwing 7 complete innings, striking out 5, and giving up 2 earned runs.
Ashley Cecil led the way offensively as she went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Cecil also stole 3 bases in the win.
Natasha Meyer went 1-for-2 with an RBI as Lindsay Ijjas, Erin Ogden, and Kate Fishburn all had hits for the Eagles.
The Eagles defeated Salem International in five innings 8-0 in the second game of the double header.
Christine Beck (5-4) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only 2 hits, and striking out one.
Beck also had an outstanding offensive game as she went 1-for-2 with a run scored and 2 RBI’s.
Ashley Cecil who is 11 out of her last 18 (.611) went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
Kristy Ringler went 2-for-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI’s in the win.
Cecil has been outstanding this week as she is batting .611 with 6 runs, 5 RBI’s and 7 stolen bases.
The Eagles improve to 11-8 on the season and will play Saint Anselm and Mercyhurst College this Thursday at 4 and 6 pm at the Lee County Sports Complex.
