FGCU softball goes 1-1 on the day

Fort Myers – The FGCU softball team played a pair of games today at the Lee County Sports Complex. The first game proved to be a close battle as North Central College knocked off the Eagles 3-2. However, the Eagles bounced back in the second game as they pounded 19 hits, and defeated DePauw University 19-0. In game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but NCC bounced back in the bottom of the fourth to score two runs. NCC would grab another run in the bottom of the fifth, but FGCU could only answer with one run in the top half of the sixth to lose 3-2. Christine Beck led the way offensively as she went 1-for-2 with a run scored, including her first career home run. NCC starting pitcher Laura Ingram pitched a complete game, one-hitter while striking out seven Eagles in the win. FGCU starting pitcher Nicole Wehrner gave up three earned runs and eleven hits, as she is now 10-6. The second game proved to be much more productive as the Eagles pounded out 19 hits and scored 19 runs in the 19-0 win. Christine Beck was solid today as she earned her ninth win of the season (9-5). Beck went five innings, surrendered just two hits, and stuck out a pair while shutting out DePauw. Offensively, Ashley Cecil and Kristy Ringler combined for a 6-for-8 performance with five RBI’s and 4 runs scored. Cecil doubled and tripled while Ringler had a double in the victory. Christine Beck went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI, while Blair Toleman went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored. Courtney Fleming hit her first home run of the season as she went 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Erin Ogden, Kelly Morgan, and Adrienne Cicirello all had 2-hit games for the Eagles as all three combined for 7 RBI’s. The Eagles improve to 19-13 with the victory and will face Wisconsin-Whitewater and Lindenwood University Thursday at the Lee County Sports complex beginning at 11 am.
