Softball Team Maintains National Ranking
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team dropped to No. 24 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II poll this week, it was announced on Wednesday.
Despite winning 19 of 20 games since the previous poll, including four wins over teams that jumped over FGCU in the new rankings, the Eagles fell seven positions from the No. 17 spot, which was the highest in school history. By remaining in the poll, FGCU is ranked in back-to-back polls for the first time. On March 8 the Eagles received their first ranking in school history.
Emporia State (26-1) holds the top spot, followed by Florida Southern (27-1). Humboldt State (26-3) Southeastern Oklahoma (24-2) and SIU-Edwardsville.
In addition to FGCU and Florida Southern, one other South Region team is included. Barry, which won the first two of three scheduled games against the FGCU, is ranked ninth.
The Eagles (39-4) have a current 22-game winning streak and have won 34 of their last 35 games. They host Franklin Pierce in a doubleheader on Thursday at 5 p.m.
