FGCU Softball Ranked Fourth In NCAA South Region Rankings
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University is ranked fourth in the first NCAA Division II South Region softball rankings released Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Softball Committee. The ranking is the highest for FGCU in the two years it has been eligible for post-season play.
The Eagles (48-4) have won 31 straight games heading into Friday’s doubleheader with Palm Beach Atlantic University, a provisional member of the NCAA.
The top 10 teams in each of eight NCAA Division II regions will be included in each ranking. The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through May 3. The top eight teams in each region at the end of the season receive bids to the 64-team national championship tournament. FGCU, which became a full-fledged member of the NCAA in 2004-05, is looking for its first NCAA tournament bid. The Eagles conclude their 64-game regular season on April 22.
