MIAMI SHORES, Fla., - The FGCU Softball team exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to drop Lynn in the Barry Invitational. The Eagles are now 10-2 while Lynn falls to 3-7.
The Eagles got on the board in the second inning and never looked back. Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) singled and stole second. She later came in on a single by Alisha Boyd (Naples, Fla.). In the fourth, the Eagles scored seven times on eight hits in the inning. The first five Eagles reached safely as Natasha Johnson (Fort Pierce, Fla.) began the onslaught with a leadoff walk. Rachael Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) delivered the big blow, a two-run homer.
Dana Frantz picked up the win for FGCU, going 5.0 innings and limiting Lynn to four hits and no runs. Rachel Homan went 3-for-4 for the Eagles while Jessica Gary was 3-for-3 for FGCU. Six other Eagles added at least one hit in the 8-0 win.
The Eagles will be back in action in the Barry Invitational tomorrow at 10:00 am when they face Valdosta State. The Eagles finish up the tournament with a game against Nova Southeastern at 4:00 pm.
