Softball Comes From Behind to Beat Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., - The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team rallied to defeat Nova Southeastern 3-2 in the Barry Invitational. Nova Southeastern got on the board in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead off an unearned run. The Sharks added a second run in the fifth inning taking a 2-0 lead. The Eagles answered with a run in the sixth as Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) led off with a single. Natasha Johnson (Fort Pierce, Fla.) doubled to bring home Paez and get the Eagles on the scoreboard and setting up a dramatic finish. With one out, Alisha Boyd (Naples, Fla.) drew a walk and Rachel Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) hit a homerun to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. The Eagles allowed a runner to reach the bases after an error in the bottom of the seventh, but were able to work around the error and claim a 3-2 win. Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) picked up the win for the Eagles, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing four hits and a pair of runs, only one of which was earned. Homan’s only hit was the game-winning homer, as she went 1-for-3. The Eagles were able to put seven hits on the board. The Eagles will be in action again on Friday when they compete in the Eckerd College Triton Spring Invitational.
