21st Ranked Softball Team Notches 27th Win of the Season

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The newly ranked FGCU softball team picked up their eighth straight and 27th overall wins with 5-1 and 15-7 victories over Lynn. Jessica Rouse (Jacksonville, Fla.) again starred for the Eagles offensively, hitting her sixth homer of the year in the fourth inning, which gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Lynn had an answer for the Eagles, in the fifth. The Knights had three hits in the inning and were aided by a pair of FGCU errors to cut the lead to 2-1. FGCU tacked on a run in their half of the fifth on a LeeAnne McDowell sacrifice fly. FGCU added a pair of runs on Rouse’s second homer of the game, this time a two run bomb with two outs in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. Rachel Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) earned her 13th win of the year to improve to 13-0. Edinger struck out six and allowed one run on six hits in the contest. Rouse was 2-for-3 with three RBI and hit her sixth and seventh homeruns of the year. The second game saw both teams put on an offensive show. The two teams combined for 22 runs on 22 hits and three homeruns. The Eagles scored at least one run in every inning, four innings saw the Eagles score three runs. Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) had a huge game for the Eagles, going 2-for-3 with six RBI. Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) hit her team-leading 11th homer of the year, a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Hillary Johnson (Fort Myers, Fla.) also hit a homerun in the contest. Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) earned the win and improved to 13-3 on the year. Meghan Osborne and Danielle Curcio each went 2-for-3 for the Knights while Nikki Pallister hit a two-run shot in a four-run fifth inning. Edinger picked up her second save of the season, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. The Eagles will be in action again on March 10th when they face Nova Southeastern in the Fun-In-Sun Classic at 11:00 am.
