Softball Reaches Highest Ranking Ever

FORT MYERS, Fla.- With a 40-3 record and a 21 game winning streak the FGCU softball team is now ranked 5th in the country, their highest ranking in school history. The Eagles are receiving one of the eight first place votes. The top five in order consists of Lock Haven, Columbus State, Humboldt State, Angelo State, and Florida Gulf Coast University. Emporia State, SIU-Edwardsville, Alabama-Huntsville, Cal State Stanislaus, and Lenoir-Rhyne round out the top ten. FGCU is led by power hitting Carmen Paez (Jr., Belle Glade, Fla.) as she has belted 17 home-runs and has driven in 49 runs on the year. Jessica Rouse (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) the Eagles fourth place hitter has hit 11 home-runs and drove in 38 runs on the year. FGCU has hit an amazing 55 homers on the year while only given up seven and have outscored their opponents 251 to 62. The Eagles will put their 21 game winning streak on the line tonight as they will play two against New York Tech, first pitch at 5:00 PM at the FGCU Softball Complex.
