Eagles softball improves to 44-3

FORT MYERS, Fla.- The fifth ranked FGCU Eagles extended their winning streak to 25 as they defeated the Barry Buccaneers 6-3 and 3-2 in two thrilling comebacks. In the first game FGCU got on the board in the second on a bases loaded infield hit by Alisha Boyd (Jr., Naples, Fla.) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers answered right back in the top of the third with a three run homer to give Barry a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth Cheyenne Jenks (So., Naples, Fla.) gave the Eagles a 4-3 lead with a two run double off the base of the wall in left center, the next batter Carmen Paez (Jr., Belle Glades, Fla.) made the score 6-3 with her 19th homerun of the year. Rachael Edinger (Jr., Lakeland, Fla.) shut Barry down the rest of the way as she improved her record to 21-0 on the year. In the night cap the Buccaneers got on the scoreboard first with a two out RBI single by Ali Perantoni. The Eagles were shut down by drop ball specialist Amber Jack until the sixth inning where Rachel Homan (Sr., Vero Beach, Fla.) tied the game at one with a solo homerun to left center her 11th on the year. The game then went into extra innings and Barry finally scored on a throwing error by Paez to make the score 2-1 in the top of the 10th. The Eagles answered with a two out RBI single by Natasha Johnson (Sr., Fort Pierce Fla.) tying the game at two. FGCU ended it in the 11th with a sacrifice fly by Jessica Rouse (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) to give the Eagles a 3-2 victory. The Eagles will now travel to Dahlonega, GA this weekend to compete in the Ryans Classic. Their first game will be Friday at 9:00 PM.
