ST. LEO, Fla., - The #7 FGCU softball team battled to improve their record to 50-4 in a 10-inning pitchers’ duel Wednesday night. FGCU took game one 1-0. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled with the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth due to severe weather.

The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 4th when Alison Flynn recorded the only hit on a single to shortstop. Erin Brunt then bunted and drew a throwing error advancing Flynn to third. Edinger struck out Christina Van Tassel while Brunt stole second. Ally Maddox popped up to shortstop followed by a walk for Ashley Urbanik to load the bases for the force out at home to end the inning.
Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) scored the game-ending run due to the international tie-breaker in the top of the 10th. Gary was placed on second to start the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice by Roz Tyre (Lake City, Fla.). Rachael Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) singled to right center to score Gary and the winning run. The Lions attempted to rally in the second half of the inning but came up short.
