Softball Splits Doubleheader at Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The #7 FGCU Eagles Softball team split their doubleheader at #22 Barry today. FGCU lost the first game 1-0 in ten innings, but took the second game in five innings with a score of 9-0.
The Eagles fell to 52-5 after ten innings in the first game of a doubleheader with Barry today. Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) records her first loss on the season bringing her to 25-1. Barry’s Amber Jack records the win improving to 22-7. Jack pitched all ten innings, only giving up five hits and one walk, while striking out seven. Edinger gave up 11 hits and two walks while striking out three.
The Buccaneers pulled out the win in the bottom of the 10th with a single down the right field line by Amber Jack. Danielle Rezendes pinch ran for Maile Keeney who was placed on second to start the inning. Rezendes advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Amanda Goelz. Holli Davis then walked, bringing up Amber Jack. Davis then stole second. Jack singled down the right field line to score Rezendes from third to end the game.
The Eagles came alive in the second game with a score of 9-0 in five innings. Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) recorded the win improving her record to 24-3. Rachel Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) started the game off with a homerun to right center field. The Eagles then took a lead of 6-0 in the second with the help of a grand slam from Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.). The Eagles improved their lead in the top of the third to 9-0. Hillary Johnson (Fort Myers, Fla.) started off the inning with a single down the left field line. Christa Piquette (Barrington, R.I.) pinch ran for Johnson, and advanced on a bunt by Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.). Piquette and Gary both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Natasha Johnson (Fort Pierce, Fla.). Alisha Boyd (Naples, Fla.) then grounded out, bringing up Rachel Homan. Homan homered to score the last three runs of the game. The Eagles held off the Buccaneers until the end of the fifth to end the game.
The Eagles take on Florida Tech on Friday, April 20 at 5:00 PM.
