FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU softball finished their final season ranked 10th in NCAA Division II in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) top 25 poll. It is the highest final ranking for the FGCU softball team.
FGCU led the nation in wins this season with 62 and made it to the South Region final before falling to Florida Southern. FGCU was ranked 11 consecutive weeks, and climbed as high as fifth during the season.
"We had a special season and it is nice to receive some national attention for what we accomplished this year," stated Head Coach Dave Deiros. "Of course, it would have been nice to finish in the top eight, but this will serve as a nice springboard to our move to Division I and the Atlantic Sun Conference."
The top 10 ranking comes on the heels of junior third baseman Carmen Paez being named Player-of-the-Year by Daktronics. The Eagles finished the season among the national leaders in homeruns and ERA as well as leading Division II in wins this year.
Next season, FGCU will be a member of the Atlantic Sun and NCAA Division I.
