Softball Season Ends With 3-0 Loss to Florida Southern
Sunday, May 13, 2007

VALDOSTA, Ga., - FGCU dropped a 3-0 heartbreaker to Florida Southern in the South Region Championship. The Mocs will now advance to the College World Series in Akron, Ohio.

Pitching was the theme in this contest. Through six innings, the teams combined for just five hits. FGCU put up three of those, but could not get a base runner to second base against South Region pitcher of the year Megan Brown. Rachel Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) did extend her hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the third inning. FGCU's Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) proved to be just as dominant, allowing two hits and one walk.

Brown ran into trouble in the seventh when she led off the inning with a walk. An error followed, giving FGCU runners on second and third with no outs. After an intentional walk, Brown was able to get out of the inning with no damage.

The Mocs Jackie Leppla dropped a one out single into left field. After a sac bunt and an intentional walk, Leah English came up with two outs. English hit a game winning three-run homer to send the Mocs to the World Series.

The Eagles finish the year at 62-8 and will join NCAA Division I and the Atlantic Sun Conference next season.
