VALDOSTA, Ga., - The FGCU softball team opened up the NCAA Division II South Regional with a 3-1 loss to Rollins in the first game of the day.

Rachel Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) led off the game with a single and stole a pair of bases. Rollins starter Nicole Anderson retired the next eight batters before Homan came up to bat with a pair of outs in the third. The senior drilled her 17th homer of the season to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

The Tars answered back with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning. After striking out the first batter, Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) gave up a single to Jamie Rausch. After an error by Edinger, Ingrid Schumacher hit a two-out homer to give the Tars the 3-1 lead.

From that point, both pitchers cruised, each surrendering one base runner for a 3-1 Rollins win. Edinger suffered her second loss of the season, falling to 28-1 while Anderson improved to 26-12 on the year.

The Eagles will be in action again tomorrow morning at 11:00 am when they face the loser of the Alabama-Huntsville vs. Barry game.
