TAMPA, Fla. - For the second day in a row the FGCU softball team won one of two games at the USF Best Western Tourney.
FGCU defeated USF in game one, 3-1. The Eagles struck first with a homerun from Jenks that scored Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) to make the score 2-0 in the bottom half of the first. USF responded with hits from Alison Savaresw and Aya Nakajima but FGCU held off the Bulls and kept them from capitalizing on the Eagles offensive surge in the opening frame.
Junior shortstop Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) finished 1-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI. Roz Tyre (Lake City, Fla.) went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) gained her second win in the circle as she pitched her second consecutive complete game. Frantz pitched 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits. She struck out three batters along the way.
In game two, the Eagles dropped a 7-5 heart-breaker in extra innings to the Memphis Tigers.
The Eagles were leading 4-2 going into the top of the seventh, but the Tigers scored two runs in the seventh to force extra innings and scored three runs in the eighth top knock off the Eagles.
FGCU will return for the final day of the USF Best Western Tourney tomorrow against Illinois at 9:30 am.
