Softball Splits at USF WilsonTournament

TAMPA, Fla., - The FGCU softball team split a pair of games in the opening day of the USF Wilson Tournament. The Eagles went 1-1 against the SEC with a win over Ole Miss and loss to #5 Tennessee. The Eagles are now 3-4 on the season.

The Eagles Handed Ole Miss a 4-2 loss behind a two-run homerun by Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.). Rachael Edinger (Lake City, Fla.) picked up the win, going all 7.0 innings while striking out seven batters. Paez also added a double and a pair of runs.

The Eagles got out to a 2-0 lead over the Vols with another two-run shot by Paez. The Vols quickly answered with a run in the bottom of the first and a pair in the bottom of the second. They would add three runs later in the game to hold on for the 6-2 win. Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) went 2-for-3 while Paez added her second homer of the day.

The Eagles will be in action again in the USF Wilson Tournament when they face USF and Hofstra tomorrow afternoon.
