FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU softball team won a pair of games in the first day of the FGCU Spring Break Invitational. The Eagles scored 14 runs on the day with wins over South Dakota State and Boston College.
The Eagles are now 7-5 on the season.
The Eagles handed SDSU a 12-0 loss in their first game of the day. Senior Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with a homerun, three RBI's and three runs scored. Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) went 2-for-5 with three RBI's and Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Morgan Campen (Rougemont, N.C.) picked up her first win of the season, going all 7.0 innings while striking out eight batters and giving up one hit.
FGCU scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings and went on to shut out Boston College, 2-0, in their second game of the day. Sam Waldron (Plant City, Fla.) went 1-for-2 with a RBI. Alisha Boyd (Naples, Fla.) finished a RBI. Senior Rachael Edinger picked up her fourth win of the season, pitching a complete game and giving up five hits, while striking out seven.
The Eagles will be in action for the second day of the FGCU Spring Break Invitational when they face St. Bonaventure and Western Carolina tomorrow evening.
