FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU softball team swept a double-header from Mount St. Mary’s on Thursday night to extend their winning streak to 12. The Eagles won both games in convincing fashion with scores of 11-0 and 12-4; both games went final after five innings. The Eagles are now 15-5 on the season.
The Eagles took the first matchup from the Mounts by a score of 11-0. Senior Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) went the distance for the Eagles, pitching five strong innings, allowing only three hits while striking five to pick up her seventh win of the season. Senior Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) went 2-2 with a home run, four RBI’s, while senior Alisha Boyd (Naples, Fla.) went 2-2 with a couple of runs scored, and two RBI’s to lead the way offensively for the Eagles.
FGCU knocked off the Mounts in the second game by a score of 12-4. Senior Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) recorded five RBI’s while going a perfect 4-4 from the plate and scoring two runs, while junior Samantha Waldron (Plant City, Fla.) finished 3-for-3 with three RBI’s. Junior Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) picked up her fifth win of the season, striking out three in five innings.
The Eagles will be in action tomorrow when they once again battle Mount St. Mary’s at 6 P.M. followed by an 8 P.M. matchup with Northern Illinois.
