FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU softball team went 1-1 on day one of the FGCU Spring Break Softball Tourney. The Eagles are now 17-6 on the season.
The Eagles took the first matchup from Mount St. Mary by a score of 9-0. Freshman Morgan Campen (Rougemont, N.C.) went the distance for the Eagles, pitching five strong innings, allowing only three hits while striking out eight to pick up her fifth win of the season. Junior Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI, while junior Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) went 1-for-3 with a grand slam homerun and four RBI's to lead the way offensively for the Eagles.
FGCU fell to the Huskies of Northern Illinois in the second game by a score of 3-2 in eight innings. FGCU had a chance to score and possibly win the game but with runners on second and third base and only one out, the Eagles fouled out to the third baseman and then the catcher to end the game.
The Eagles will be in action tomorrow when they meet St. Francis at 6 P.M. followed by an 8 P.M. matchup with St. Bonaventure.
