FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team improved its record to 19-6 on Saturday after a pair of wins over St. Bonaventure and St. Francis. The Eagles defeated St. Francis in game one of a double-header by a score of 11-6 and St. Bonaventure by a score of 6-3 in game two of the double-header.
In game one, junior Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) got the win while going the distance, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out three. Roz Tyree (Lake City, Fla.) led the way offensively for the Eagles going 2-5 with five RBI’s and two runs scored, while Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) was 1-4 with three RBI’s. Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) continued her hot hitting going 1-2 with a homerun, two RBI’s, 3 runs scored, and two walks.
In game two, Morgan Campen (Rougemont, N.C.) picked up her sixth win of the season while throwing a complete game, allowing only three runs on six hits while striking out seven. Carmen Paez was 1-3 with two RBI’s, Samantha Waldron (Plant City, Fla.) was also 1-3 with two RBI’s, and senior Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) was 2-4 with an RBI.
The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday when they battle Northern Illinois in game one of a double-header at 8 A.M. followed by Mount St. Mary at 1:00 P.M. in game two of the double-header.
