DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The FGCU softball team hit seven homeruns in two games as they swept a double-header from Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles are now 23-6 on the season and have won 19 of their last 20 games.
The Eagles took the first matchup from the Wildcats by a score of 15-3. Senior Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) went the distance for the Eagles, pitching five strong innings, while striking out four to pick up her ninth win of the season. Samantha Waldron (Plant City, Fla.), Roz Tyre (Lake City, Fla.) and Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) each hit homeruns in the game.
FGCU knocked off Bethune-Cookman in the second game by a score of 23-1. Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.), Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) and Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) each homered in the game, with Miller blasting two out of the park. Junior Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) picked up her seventh win of the season, striking out four in five innings.
The Eagles will be in action tomorrow when they face Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois on the first day of the FAU Miken Classic. FGCU will play SEMO at 9 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. matchup with EIU.
