Head Coach Dave Deiros and the Eagles look to win their third consecutive tournament on Sunday.
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team improved its record to 27-6 on Saturday after a pair of wins over Bethune-Cookman and FAU at the Miken Classic. The Eagles defeated BC in game one by a score of 12-4 and FAU by a score of 7-2 in game two.
In game one, Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) got the win, piching 5.0 innings and registering three strikeouts. Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) led the way offensively for the Eagles going 2-for-3 with a homerun and four RBI’s. Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) went 3-for-4 and hit her first homerun of the season. Christa Piquette (Barrington, R.I.) and Sam Waldron (Plant City, Fla.) both finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In game two, Edinger picked up her 12th win of the season while pitching 7.0 innings and racking up nine strikeouts. The Eagles got on the board first when Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) hit a three-run double to left centerfield to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage. Carmen Paez hit her team-leading 12th homerun to right centerfield in the top of the fourth inning to increase FGCU's lead to 5-0. FAU would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 5-2, but the Eagles would score two runs in the top of the seventh, thanks to a Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) two-run double, to put the Owls away.
The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday when they battle FAU or Towson in the championship game of the Miken Classic. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. and livestats will be available on FAUsports.com.
