Eagles Earn a Split with Long Island

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU softball team split a double-header with the Blackbirds of Long Island.The Eagles are now 34-8 on the season.

The Eagles lost the first matchup to the Blackbirds by a score of 3-2. The Eagles had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with one on and two outs, but the FGCU flied out to left field to end the game.

FGCU knocked off Long Island in game two by a score of 5-3. Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) finished 2-for-2 with two HR's and three RBI's, Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) went 1-for-4 with a homerun one RBI and Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) finished 1-for-3 and hit her 17th homerun of the season. In the bottom of the third inning J. Paez, C. Paez and Jenks provided some entertainment for the fans by hitting back-to-back-to-back homeruns.

Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) picked up the win, allowing seven hits and giving up three runs, and Morgan Campen (Rougemont, N.C.) picked up her first save of the season.

The Eagles will be in action Thursday when they host A-Sun foe, Campbell, for a double-header. The first game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
