FGCU Takes First Game, Second Game Delayed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Eagles knocked off the Lipscomb Bison 4-3 in the first half of the doubleheader this evening at Draper Diamond to increase their lead for first place in the A-Sun on Friday evening.

The A-Sun Game of the Week featured a back and forth battle between the top two teams in the league.

Florida Gulf Coast went up first in the top of the third inning when the Lady Bisons loaded the bases and allowed Eagle freshman Courtney Platt (Naples, Fla.) to score unearned.

The Lady Bisons tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the inning, when senior shortstop Sarah Simons reached on a walk and scored when sophomore shortstop Abby Keese laid down an RBI double off the left field fence.

In the top of the next inning the Eagles would again load the bases allowing pinch runner Paige Raulerson to score from third when LeeAnne McDowell (Arcadia, Fla.), pinch hitting for centerfielder Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) grounded out to second base.

The Eagles gave the Lady Bisons two more runs in the second half of the inning when sophomore third baseman Kellie Sirus, scored on an error by the Eagle first baseman and two batters latter, senior catcher Jenn Allsup hit an RBI single to the pitcher to score senior first baseman Heather Collins.

Eagle third baseman Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) tied the game again with a lead off home run in the top of the fifth.

Eagle short stop Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) added a solo home run to go up 4-3 over the Lady Bisons in the top of the sixth inning, and the Lady Bisons were unable to put together anything else.

Heather Collins finished the game two for two with one run, and senior catcher Jennifer Allsup went two for three with an RBI. Abby Keese, Kellie Sirus, and MacKenzie Tucker would each pick up a hit for a total of seven hits for the Lady Bisons.

Inclement weather in the area forced game two of the double header to be postponed tentatively till 12 p.m. Sunday.
