Softball Drops a Pair to FIU

MIAMI, Fla. - The Eagles softball team hit six homeruns, including three by Carmen Paez, as they dropped a pair of games to the Golden Panthers of FIU.

The Eagles are now 40-10 on the season.

The Eagles lost the first matchup to the Golden Panthers by a score of 6-5. The Eagles were leading 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Jessica Landau doubled and brought in two runners to end the game.

Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) and Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) both hit a pair of homeruns in the loss. Paez finished 2-for-3 with two HR's and two RBI's. Jenks also with 2-for-3 with two homeruns and three RBI's.

FGCU dropped the second game of the double-header 14-11 in 11 innings. The game was tied 11-11 going into the bottom of the 11th inning. FIU's lead off hitter grounded out to the pitcher for the inning's first out. The next two Golden Panther batters stepped into the batters box and hit singles, giving FIU runners on first and second with only one out. FIU left fielder, Jessica Landau, then stepped up and hit a walk-off three-run homerun to give the Golden Panthers the 14-11 win.

The Eagles will be back in action Friday when they host A-Sun foe, Kennesaw State, for a double-header. The first game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
