FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team will participate in its third straight tournament as they get set to host the FGCU Spring Break Invitational. The Eagles head into this weekend’s action with a record of 7-3. The Eagles will play five games in three days, beginning on Friday, Feb. 20 and concluding Sunday, Feb. 22. FGCU opens against Fairfield and nationally ranked DePaul on Friday, plays DePaul and Fairfield on Saturday, and wraps up play with Michigan State on Sunday.

Bethune-Cookman comes in with a record of 2-8. After picking up their first win of the season over Texas State on Feb. 7, the Wildcats dropped their next six games before knocking off Stetson 6-4 in the final game of the Stetson Hatter Invite. BCU is led by Ashton Hinds who is hitting .424 with two doubles, one HR, a pair of RBI, and 10 runs scored.

No. 13 DePaul comes into this weekend’s action with a 4-1 record. The Blue Demons pitching staff includes Lindsay Dean and Becca Heteniak. Dean is 2-0 with an ERA of 3.71 and an opponent’s batting average of .446. Heteniak has a record of 2-1, including two complete games, an era of 3.85 and an opponent’s batting average of .218. Heteniak is also hitting .533 with one homer, four doubles, and eight runs batted in.

Junior Cat McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.), looks to anchor the pitching staff this weekend for the Eagles. She comes in with a record of 4-0 with three complete games, a shutout, and an era of 2.42. Offensively, Jessica Carter leads the Eagles with a .519 batting average. Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.), the reigning A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, leads FGCU with four homers, 16 RBI, and a 1.034 slugging percentage.
