FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU softball team received two votes in this week's Ultimate College Softball Top 25 that was announced on Monday. This is the fifth time that the Eagles have received votes in a Division I Top 25 poll, and the fourth time that they have received votes in the Ultimate College Softball Poll.

The UCS Top 25 is voted on by selected collegiate coaches.

"It is an honor to be mentioned in the same release with the best teams in college softball," said head coach Dave Deiros. "Our team is playing very well right now and deserves the recognition. We need to keep the momentum going as we host EMU tonight and our second tournament starting this weekend."

FGCU has an 11-4 overall record, including a win over No. 13 DePaul. Senior Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) has been solid for the Eagles this season and is hitting .488 with five HRs and 21 RBI. Courtney Platt (Naples, Fla.) and Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) have also been huge for FGCU, with both players currently hitting over .410 with two HRs and 16 RBI apiece. Cat McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) has anchored the FGCU pitching staff. McDaniel is 6-0 with a 2.65 ERA. She has pitched four complete games with two shutouts, including a no-hitter, and struck out 40 batters.

The Eagles will be in action tonight when they host Eastern Michigan for double-header. The first game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
