Eagles Sweep Eastern Michigan

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU softball team completed with a two-game sweep of EMU on Tuesday at the FGCU Softball Complex. The Eagles won game one, 9-6, and game two 3-2.

With the wins, FGCU advances 13-4 on the season. Eastern Michigan drops to 3-3 overall.

In game one, FGCU got on the board first and scored five runs through the first four innings. EMU would not give up as the they would put four runs on the board in the top of the fifth to cuth the FGCU lead down to 5-4.

FGCU would push their lead back up to 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth held off EMU to take the first game 9-6.

Cat McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) picked up her seventh win of the season, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out six batters.

In game two, FGCU would once again score first, this time in the bottom of the third inning when Christa Piquette (Barrington, R.I.) scored off a Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) sac fly to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

EMU would score two in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead, which was the first and only time they would lead.

Florida Gulf Coast would respond in the bottom of the sixth when Jessica Carter (Ocala, Fla.) singled up the middle to score Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) and Paez, giving FGCU a 3-2 lead and the eventual win.

The Eagles will be in action this weekend as the host the FGCU Spring Break Tourney Friday, Feb. 27 through Sunday, March 1.
