FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Eagles outscored their opponents 19-0 as they won their first two games of the FGCU Spring Break Tournament.
With the wins, FGCU improves its record to 15-4 overall and 7-1 at home after a pair of wins over Colgate and St. Francis. The Eagles defeated Colgate in game one by a score of 8-0 and St. Francis by a score of 11-0 in game two of the double-header.
In game one, junior Cat McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) got her eight win and third shutout of the season while pitching 6.0 innings, allowing three hits while striking out nine. Jessica Carter (Ocala, Fla.) led the way offensively for the Eagles going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base. Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) continued her hot hitting going 2-for-3 with a homerun, two RBI, and two runs scored.
In game two, senior Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) picked up her fourth win of the season while throwing a one-hit shutout, while striking out three. Sammy Waldron (Plant City, Fla.) was 1-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI, Christa Piquette (Barrington, R.I.) went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI, and Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) was 2-for-4 with a homerun, two RBI, and two runs scored.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they battle Dartmouth in game one at 5 p.m. followed by Bryant at 7:00 p.m.
