FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team continued to score runs in bunches, outscoring Dartmouth and Bryant by a combined score of 29-1 on Saturday in day two of the FGCU Spring Break Invitational.

 

In game one against Dartmouth, Samantha Waldron (Plant City, Fla.) led the way offensively with a 2-2 effort, including a grand slam and a solo home run, giving her four home runs on the season.  Waldron also drew a walk and scored three runs in the game.  Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) also added a solo home run and scored three times.  In the circle, Cat McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) picked up her ninth win of the year in her ninth start, tossing a two-hit complete game in the 15-1 victory.

 

The Eagles didn’t slow down offensively in game two against Bryant, jumping out to a 12-0 lead after three innings.  In the third inning, Jenks and Waldron hit back-to-back home runs, just as they had in the first game.  Jenks would add another home run later in the game, and finished 2-3 with two runs scored and five RBIs, giving her a team-leading 31 runs driven in on the season.  Lauran Ziegler (Palm Bay, Fla.) went 3-4 with 3 runs scored out of the leadoff spot for the Eagles, upping her average to .349 on the year.  Cassidy Rash (Crystal River, Fla.) got the start and the win, improving to 3-1 this year.  Rash allowed just one hit over three scoreless innings, striking out two.  Alexis Casey pitched the final two frames for the Eagles, allowing two hits and a walk, striking out one.  With the two scoreless innings, Casey lowered her season ERA to 1.50.

 

The Eagles (17-4) will wrap up the FGCU Spring Break Tournament tomorrow with two games, the first against Dartmouth at 11:00 AM, followed by a contest with St. Francis (PA) at 1:00 PM.
