FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team is ranked 18th in the nation in the latest Ultimate College Softball poll. The poll was released early Tuesday morning (Mar. 17).

The Eagles (30-4) have moved up five spots in the poll after being ranked 23rd in the nation last week’s poll, which was the program’s first-ever Division I ranking. FGCU became the first team to win 30 games this season after going undefeated at the USF Under Armour Showcase. The Eagles recorded wins over 2008 NCAA tournament teams BYU, Hofstra, and No. 19 UMass as they ran their win streak to 22 games and moved up to No. 18.

The Eagles, one of the A-Sun’s tri-champs last season, open up Atlantic Sun play this weekend when they head to Jacksonville to take on the Dolphins of Jacksonville University (Friday, March 20) and the Ospreys of UNF (Saturday, March 21).
