After finishing the Atlantic Sun regular season in third place, the FGCU softball team earned additional honors on Tuesday. The conference announced their postseason honors, with FGCU taking home four awards.

The three seniors on the 2010 FGCU softball team went out as winners, sweeping the Bears of Mercer 4-3 and 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the FGCU Softball Complex. But it was a pair of freshmen who were the heroes today, with Brittany Baker hitting a walk-off home run in game one and Erin Olson driving in three runs in game two.

The FGCU softball team will close out the 2010 season on Saturday when they host the Bears of Mercer in a doubleheader at the FGCU Softball Complex. First pitch for game one is slated for 2 p.m. Seniors Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.), Hayley O'Mara (Naples, Fla.), and Lauran Ziegler (Palm Bay, Fla.) will be honored in between games.

The FGCU softball team wrapped up its final road trip of the season in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader at first-place Lipscomb. The Eagles lost game one, 4-1, before dropping the second game, 6-0. Lauran Ziegler and Jessica Gary each tallied a pair of hits on the day.

The FGCU softball team returned to the win column on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep at Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. The Eagles took game one, 2-1, before dominating the second game, 11-4. Lauran Ziegler (Palm Bay, Fla.) collected three hits and four RBIs on the day, including her second home run of the season.

The Eagles will open the weekend with a pair of games at Belmont on Friday (Apr. 16) beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a doubleheader at Lipscomb on Saturday (Apr. 17) beginning at 1 p.m.

The FGCU softball team lost a pair of close games against Stetson on Sunday (Apr. 11) at the Patricia Wilson Softball Complex in DeLand, Fla. The Eagles lost game one, 4-0, before falling in the second game, 4-2. Mariah Fernandez (Cape Coral, Fla.) hit her fifth home run of the season in game two.

The FGCU softball team pounded out 18 hits on Thursday night, scoring seven runs in each game of their doubleheader sweep of the Campbell Camels. The Eagles took game one, 7-2, before winning game two, 7-5. With the wins, the Blue and Green improve to 20-24 overall and 8-4 in A-Sun play, good for sole possession of second place.

The Eagles took game one, 10-4, before losing in the second game, 4-0. FGCU's record moves to 18-24 overall, while the Golden Panthers now stand at 23-14.

The FGCU softball team will conclude its six-game road trip with a doubleheader at Florida International on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. in Miami, Fla. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, as FIU defeated the Eagles, 6-5 in eight innings, at the Blue and Gold Felsburg Memorial Tournament in Miami on February 21.

A two-run home run in the seventh inning from Hayley O'Mara completed the comeback in game one, giving FGCU a 5-4 win. The Eagles pounded out 11 runs on nine hits (three home runs) in game two, winning by a score of 11-7.

UNF took game one, 2-1, before winning game two in eight innings, 4-2. Tiffani Upchurch (Lake Wales, Fla.) collected three hits and scored twice in the two games for the Eagles.

A three-run home run from Hayley O'Mara helped the Eagles take game one, 6-4, and a pair of home runs coupled with a great outing from Kelci Breaux completed the sweep, 6-0.

Instead of five games, the Eagles will now play three. Also, FGCU's opponents have changed; the Blue and Green are now set to play New Mexico State, Stony Brook, and Penn State.

The FGCU softball team was selected fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches' poll, the conference announced Wednesday. Lipscomb earned top billing, edging out Campbell and Mercer. Outfielders Lauran Ziegler and Courtney Platt were also named to the preseason all-conference team.

The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team has announced the 2010 schedule. Head Coach David Deiros and the Eagles, coming off a 47-win season and a second place finish in the conference, will play a solid non-conference schedule before diving into the Atlantic Sun Conference slate.

FGCU softball head coach David Deiros has announced that eight players have signed National Letters of Intent to attend FGCU next fall and play for the 2011 Eagle softball team. Seven will be incoming freshman in the fall of 2010 while the eighth will be a red-shirt sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining along with her AA degree from junior college.

Head Softball Coach Dave Deiros will be presented with an Easton Victory Club award on Thursday, December 10. The award will be presented at a special luncheon during the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Convention in Nashville, Tenn. Deiros is being honored for having reached the 300-win plateau.

The FGCU softball program has announced plans for a fall softball camp for girls of all ages and skill levels. FGCU head coach Dave Deiros, who recently led the Eagles to a 47-9 overall record in their second season in Division I, will host the camp.
