FORT MYERS, Fla. - Head Softball Coach Dave Deiros will be presented with an Easton Victory Club award on Thursday, December 10. The award will be presented at a special luncheon during the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Convention in Nashville, Tenn. Deiros is being honored for having reached the 300-win plateau.
Deiros collected his 300th win on March 5, 2009 with a 2-1 win over Oregon State at the Malihini Tournament hosted by the University of Hawaii. The Eagles finished the 2009 season with a record of 47-9 overall, marking the fourth consecutive season and fifth time in the program’s history that Deiros has guided the team to 40 or more wins.
Entering his eighth season at FGCU, Deiros has guided the Eagles to 33 or more wins in each season and has posted an overall 327-90-2 record. In FGCU’s final two seasons at Division II, the Eagles amassed 120 victories, including a school-record and NCAA leading 62 wins in 2007 and two consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. In their first season at Division I, the Eagles won the 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship. This past year, the Eagles finished the season ranked #23 in the nation. During his tenure, Deiros has coached four regional all-academic team members; seven first- team, one second-team, and two freshmen All-Atlantic Sun Conference players; thirteen All-South Region players; one South Region Player of the Year; three All-Americans; two top-25 Finalists for USA Softball Player of the Year, and one Daktronics National Player of the Year.
“I am very honored to receive this award,” said Deiros. “I give all the credit to my players because they are the ones who have gone out and picked up all the wins. I have not thrown a strike, hit a home run, drove in a run, or stolen a base, but our players have and we’re proud of what they have been able to accomplish.”
