FGCU Softball Heads to Miami for FIU Tournament
Thursday, February 18, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team will participate in the Blue and Gold Felsburg Memorial Tournament hosted by Florida International this weekend in Miami, Fla. The Eagles will take on Wisconsin and Bethune-Cookman on Saturday before battling with Long Island and FIU on Sunday.

The Eagles (2-2) opened the 2010 season at the Wilson-DeMarini Tournament hosted by USF last weekend where they split their four games. After play was rained out on Friday, the Blue and Green defeated Canisius and Long Island on Saturday. Sunday was a different story, with FGCU falling to Illinois State and No. 13 Georgia Tech.

Wisconsin comes into the weekend with an 0-6 record, after losing to the likes of California and Auburn at the Arizona State Kajikawa Classic last weekend. Bethune-Cookman brings a 1-3 record into the tournament, with their lone win coming against Drexel in the Jacksonville University tournament last weekend.

Long Island was also at the Wilson-DeMarini Tournament last weekend, where they finished 3-2. One of those losses came against FGCU: a 7-2 decision on Saturday. Florida International will be a good test for the Eagles, as they own a 3-1 record coming into the tournament. This will be the second straight weekend tournament that the Golden Panthers have hosted; last weekend they hosted the Combat Classic at the FIU Softball Complex.
