FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team will hit the road for a pair of A-Sun doubleheaders this weekend, the first conference road games of the year for the Eagles. The Blue and Green open the weekend with a pair of games at USC Upstate on Friday (Apr. 2) beginning at 4 p.m., followed by a doubleheader at ETSU on Saturday (Apr. 3) beginning at 2 p.m.
The Eagles (15-21, 4-2 A-Sun) currently sit in third place in the Atlantic Sun, just behind UNF (3-1) and Lipscomb (4-0). Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) leads the team with a .351 batting average, while Courtney Platt (Greenville, Ohio) has recorded the most home runs (8) and RBI (24). Catherine McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) leads the pitching staff in wins with seven, while Kelci Breaux (Okeechobee, Fla.) sports a team-best 2.66 ERA.
The Spartans have won 18 of their last 21 games and enter the weekend with a 21-6 overall record, 2-2 in A-Sun play. USC Upstate opened A-Sun play last week in Nashville, sweeping Belmont before being swept by Lipscomb. Katie Zauner’s .367 is tops on the team, and Lauren Quevedo leads the way with three homers. Morgan Childers has been dominant in the circle, compiling an 18-3 record with a 0.60 ERA. Childers has notched 235 strikeouts in 127.1 innings of work this year.
ETSU (12-20, 1-3) has won three of its last four games, including its last two against Appalachian State on Wednesday. Chaniece Cason leads the team with a .314 batting average, while Trisha Massenzo has collected a team-high four home runs and 19 RBIs. Jessica Duncan leads the pitching staff with a 6-6 record and a 2.93 ERA.
