FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team will conclude its six-game road trip with a doubleheader at Florida International University on Tuesday night (Apr. 6) in Miami, Fla. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the FIU Softball Complex. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, as FIU defeated the Eagles, 6-5 in eight innings, at the Blue and Gold Felsburg Memorial Tournament in Miami on February 21.
The Eagles (17-23, 6-4 A-Sun) finished the weekend with a 2-2 record, sweeping a doubleheader at ETSU on Saturday (Apr. 3) after dropping a pair of games at USC Upstate on Friday (Apr. 2). After not scoring any runs in Spartanburg, the FGCU offense came to life on Saturday, belting five home runs and scoring 16 times in the two victories over the Lady Bucs.
Courtney Platt (Greenville, Ohio) was responsible for one of those home runs at ETSU, her ninth of the season, which ties her for the conference lead. Platt also leads the A-Sun in on-base percentage (.489) and walks (30), and ranks second in slugging percentage (.679) and RBIs (27).
Despite dropping two of three games to North Texas over the weekend, the Golden Panthers (22-13, 5-4 Sun Belt) are still off to their best start since 2001. Brie Rojas is FIU’s top offensive threat, hitting .412 with six home runs and 25 RBIs. Jen Gniadek leads the pitching staff with 10 wins, while Kas Barrett owns a team-low 2.03 ERA.
Game one of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 5 p.m. at the FIU Softball Complex. Live stats will be available at www.FIUSports.com.
