Softball Announces Fall Camp Dates
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball program has announced its fall softball camp dates for girls, ages 12 and up, and of all skill levels. FGCU head coach Dave Deiros will host the camp, while assistant coach Alycia Bachkora and members of the 2011 squad will help run the sessions as well.
The camp will provide well-rounded instruction of the game and an enjoyable and rewarding experience for each camper. The camper-to-instructor ratio will be kept low in order to provide the best possible instruction and attention to each camper. The camp will be split into four sessions over a two-day period—November 13 and 14, 2010. The schedule is listed below:
• Advanced Hitting - Saturday, November 13 - 9 a.m.-noon
• Pitchers/Catchers - Saturday, November 13 – 1-4 p.m.
• Advanced Hitting - Sunday, November 14 - 9 a.m.-noon
• Infield/Outfield - Sunday, November 14 - 1-4 p.m.
The cost of the camp is $50 for one session, $90 for two, $120 for three and all four sessions are $160. There will be discounts for siblings and team members (minimum of four from the same team). The registration deadline is November 5.
The Advanced Hitting Camp Objectives are to teach students the correct mechanics and mental approach necessary to be a successful batter, slapper, bunter, and base runner. This clinic is designed for the advanced hitter who will be evaluated using a variety of techniques. We will incorporate hitting drills designed to accelerate skill levels.
The Pitcher/Catcher Camp Objectives are to teach the fundamentals required to throw a pitch correctly, with the spin and velocity as on target as possible. Catchers will learn the techniques required for framing, blocking, and footwork for throws to bases.
The Infield/Outfield Camp Objectives are to teach fundamentals of defensive position play in softball with an emphasis on proper mechanics of fielding, throwing, and receiving. Position specific instruction will be incorporated for all skill levels as well as situational thinking.
Deiros is the first and only softball coach in FGCU history and has led his teams to a 351-118-2 record in their first nine seasons of competition (.748 winning percentage), including a 119-53 record in first three seasons of Division I in the Atlantic Sun Conference. He led his team to the 2008 Regular Season A-Sun Conference Championship and the 2009 team was ranked in the NCAA Top 30.
