FORT MYERS, Fla. – After going 2-3 during the opening weekend at the USF Tournament, the FGCU softball team has picked up six votes in the latest Mid-Major Softball Poll, announced on Monday.

FGCU earned victories over Long Island (W, 7-1) and Maine (W, 8-1) at the USF Tournament in Tampa, Fla. last weekend. The Green and Blue have lost to some formidable opponents in USF, who is receiving votes in the national Top 25 poll, Illinois State, No. 13 in the Mid-Major Poll and then-No. 2 Florida, who is now ranked No. 1 in the nation.

The Eagles will be hosting the LaQuinta Inn & Suites Tournament on Feb. 17-19 for their first home games of the season. FGCU will welcome St. Louis, Delaware, UT-Martin, ACC foe Boston College and Binghamton to the FGCU Softball Complex this weekend.

USC Upstate is the only Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in the Mid-Major Softball Poll at No. 24, while the Green and Blue are one of five teams receiving votes.

The Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette went unbeaten during the opening weekend of play to remain atop the weekly poll.

Two unbeaten teams in Houston and Hawaii are tied for the biggest leap in this week's poll, jumping five spots each. The Cougars and Rainbow Wahine both went 5-0 to win tournaments played on their respective home fields.

The Mid-Major Softball Poll is voted upon each week by a consortium of knowledgeable college softball fans from around the country. In 2012, the poll voters consist of bloggers who routinely cover the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and the Western Athletic Conference.
