Bembnowski Picks Up A-Sun Softball Player of the Week Award

FORT MYERS, Fla. – With three multi-hit games and a .600 average last week, FGCU softball sophomore Kirsten Bembnowski (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake HS) was the named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week for the first-time in her career, as announced by the league office on Monday for the week of Mar. 13-18.

Bembnowski led the Eagles to a 4-3 record on the week with victories against Canisius (W, 9-0), BIG EAST foe Rutgers (W, 5-2), UNC-Wilmington (W, 8-1) and Fairfield (W, 6-4).

With three multi-hit performances against Rutgers, UNC-Wilmington and Fairfield, the Palm Harbor, Fla., product also led the team with a .600 batting average, two doubles, a triple and five RBI. Bembnowski was 2-for-3 with two RBI in a 5-2 win over Rutgers.

Bembnowski led the team in total bases (13), slugging percentage (.867) and on-base percentage (.684) and was stellar in the field making 12 infield assists.

FGCU returns to the field on Wednesday for a doubleheader against ACC power Maryland at 5 p.m. at the FGCU Softball Complex.
